MERCIFUL...
- Kady and Ezra live in a faaar away galaxy in the Kerenza mining colony
- the Wallace Ulyanov Consortium is illegally mining hermium (the equivalent of oil).
- On the day Kady and Ezra break up BeiTech attacks Kerenza.
- Ezra refused to leave Kerenza with Kady, even for college because him and his dad were hiding from his mom, which is the owner/ceo of BeiTech
- Hypatia (a research vessel) hails for back up. Only the Alexander responds the mayday.
- BeiTech had jammed outgoing communications so it wouldn't reach anyone but the Alexander was already nearby doing patrols
- BeiTech unleashes a genetically engineered virus in the mining colony
- Copernicus picked up the survivors and didn't realize about the virus (Phobos) till much later
- The Alexander fought against and destroyed like 4 other ships. Also hurt the Lincoln who ends up in pursuit of them (Copernicus, Hypatia and Alexander)
- Ezra tried to go back to his dad, who was in the mines, but didn't make it (gets shot) and gets rescued by Kady.
- When they get to the rescue shuttles they get separated. Ezra to the Alexander for medical care and Kady (and her mom) to the Hypatia.
- Ezra gets conscripted to be a pilot and Kady gets into neuroprogramming (hacking). She makes sure she doesn't get conscripted and hides just how good she is while getting personal lessons from Byron Zhang.
- They don't talk for like 5/6 months. Which is when the virus shit gets out of control and AIDAN (AI of the Alexander) takes matters into his own metaphorical hands.
- Phobos was just meant to temporarily incapacitate the person, but because it was in a closed environment with recycled air, it mutated to become what it did, which was turn them into zombies basically.
- AIDAN (he was damaged during his fight with the 4 ships in Kerenza) realizes that everyone is getting infected and what it's turning them into and so to 'protect' the rest of the fleet he nukes the shit out of the Copernicus. (Kady's mom was forcefully moved to the Copernicus early on because she is a pathologist. To make sure Kady's mom kept helping they wouldn't allow Kady to transfer to the Copernicus
- A few shuttles from the Copernicus end up in the Alexander even though AIDAN kept trying to make Ezra and his squad shoot them down.
- Torrence (the captain of the Alexander) orders AIDAN to get shut down. They barely manage it.
- During this whole time the Lincoln is catching up while they are desperately trying to get to Heimdall station (which is were Kady's dad is stationed. Also everyone figures Heimdall was taken by BeiTech since the mayday signal never got out)
- They try to get AIDAN back up but just enough to fight off the Lincoln. They use a pc virus to get the Lincoln to shut down and give them time to run away.
- AIDAN gets pissed and tries to save itself from being shut down again by opening the doors to the hangar Bay where the afflicted from Copernicus were and leads them straight to the bridge.
- Basically every commander dies and only Zhang survives.
- Zhang had gotten taken from the Hypatia by force; the captain of Hypatia died trying to keep them there
- Zhang gets to the server rooms and starts chopping at the wires to kill off AIDAN.
- Everyone and their mother in the Alexander is either getting infected/dying or dead.
- AIDAN won't let the Hypatia run cause only 'he can protect them'
- AIDAN impersonated Ezra and gets Kady to fly to the Alexander. Once there he finally convinces her that their only way to beat the Lincoln is if they work together.
- Kady helps while battling off afflicted (she had to kill Dorian, Ezra's friend)
- She manages to get the few clean survivors out of the Alexander and into the Hypatia then the Hypatia leaves them behind.
- Kady hauls up in the defense grid room where the jump power source is.
- The Lincoln finally arrives. AIDAN unleashes all its nukes at it (90+). The Lincoln manages to shoot like 30 of theirs. Lincoln goes bye bye.
- Between Kady and the defense grid they manage to get shot only a few times.
- AIDAN helps Kady get to an escape pod. She is dying from radiation poisoning.
- The Hypatia manages to pick up her emergency beacon and gives her treatment while being quarantined.
- She finds out Ezra is still alive.
- Illuminae is the file Kady sends as a taunt to Ezra's mom telling her she is gonna expose everything (mentions like 3 other files).
- AIDAN manages to stay alive in Kady's datapad and is back to 100% by the end of the book.
